• It’s true – you are what you eat, but it’s a healthy diet plus regular exercise which is the key to a fitter healthier you. However, today’s hectic lifestyle means it’s not always easy to stick to an exercise and eating plan that helps maintain and improve your health.
• Keep your exercise and healthy eating plan simple by using everyday foods and simple exercise like walking, jogging and climbing the stairs. If you over complicate things by trying to use specialist foods or doing exercise which is time or location specific it is harder to maintain.
• When it comes to eating everyday foods you find in your cupboard – canned beans, pulses, fruit and vegetables, pasta and rice are great for fuelling your body and giving you energy to get active.
• But getting fit doesn’t have to be hard work. A trip to the gym, playing a sport or simply walking the children to school are all great ways of increasing your fitness. Exercise is very important to maintain a healthy lifestyle but don’t forget that your diet also plays a crucial role in getting the most out of your fitness programme. It can help you perform better and recover quicker after exercise.
• Eating well during and after exercise is just as important as the exercise itself – doing so will help you keep going for longer and feel better quickly once you relax.
