Wellness Centers

Wellness Centers

Wellness and leisure centres can support healthier lifestyles by providing access to exercise facilities, professional guidance and opportunities to become more active. Regular physical activity can improve physical fitness, strength and general wellbeing. Choosing activities that are enjoyable and appropriate for your individual ability can make it easier to maintain an active lifestyle over the longer term.

Whether you are a local authority considering how to provide effective leisure services to your community, someone considering a career in health and fitness, or simply looking for ways to become more active, a well-run wellness centre can provide useful facilities and support.

  • Qualified and friendly staff

The NHS exercise guidance provides information about physical activity, fitness and recommended activity levels for different age groups.

Cataracts

Cataracts occur when the lens inside the eye becomes cloudy, which can cause blurred or misty vision, increased sensitivity to light, difficulty seeing at night and colours appearing faded. Cataracts usually develop gradually and are particularly common in older adults.

If you think you may have symptoms of cataracts, arrange an eye examination with an optometrist. They can examine your eyes and, where appropriate, refer you to an eye specialist for further assessment.

It is important to note that there are currently no proven eye drops that remove or cure cataracts. Cataract surgery is the established treatment for removing a cataract when it is affecting your vision or everyday activities. During the procedure, the cloudy natural lens is removed and replaced with a clear artificial lens.

For current information about symptoms and treatment, see the NHS guidance on cataracts.

The Royal National Institute of Blind People cataract guide also explains diagnosis, living with cataracts, surgery and recovery.

Further specialist information is available from Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, including details about cataract diagnosis and treatment.
