Acrobot, the medical devices company specialising in computer assisted orthopaedic surgery, has secured additional funding from three of its existing investors, the London Technology Fund, Imperial Innovations Group plc and PUK Ventures. This increases the total amount invested by this syndicate of investors to over £3 million. Graeme Brookes, CEO of Acrobot, said “We are delighted to be receiving this support from our existing investors. This investment enables us to continue to drive forward the commercialisation of our products, ensuring more of our systems are made available in hospitals and ultimately provide better surgical outcomes for orthopaedic patients.” |

Acrobot, the medical devices company specialising in computer assisted orthopaedic surgical navigation, and Alliance Medical part of the largest pan-European medical imaging company in Europe, supporting more than 400 hospitals and clinics in the UK, today announce they have entered into a partnership which will help improve surgical outcomes through the provision of advanced imaging techniques. The deal will see Acrobot and Alliance Medical collaborate to provide orthopaedic surgeons with an integrated process from CT scanning through to navigated joint replacement that can influence clinical outcomes, making life easier for the surgeon and better for the patient. Delegates at the British
Society for Computer Aided Orthopaedic Surgery (CAOS-UK) heard on 8
February the results of a pilot study conducted by Professor Justin
Cobb to test whether planning prior to an operation, combined with the
latest navigation equipment, could increase the success rates of
students practising hip resurfacing procedures. Professor Cobb’s
work found that medical students were three times more accurate and
precise using the Acrobot Navigator than if
they used other methods (including optical navigation and conventional
instrumentation). Professor Cobb believes that the technology and
training could be applied to improve outcomes for patients. He said: |
