Acrobot’s
unique approach provides reliability and accuracy which can reduce
intra-operative issues for the surgeon by removing ‘surprises’ e.g.
Acrobot Modeller allows the surgeon to see osteophytes prior to
surgery, not in the middle of it. Acrobot
Planner engages the surgeon in careful planning of the procedure, prior
to entering the operating theatre, allowing a patient specific ‘Patient
Plan’ to be created in more relaxed surroundings saving time in
theatre. This ‘Patient Plan’ can then be successfully achieved in
theatre using Acrobot Navigator to assist the surgeon with precise
implantation of the planned components. These advantages can help to
maximise the use of operating theatre time. |

Competitive Running Costs

Acrobot’s
intra-operative systems use mechanical tracking of the patient and,
unlike optical tracking based systems, there are no expensive
disposable marker costs. The only disposables associated with Acrobot’s
products are low cost customised drapes and bone pins for Navigator and
similarly for Sculptor with the addition of two high speed burrs.

The National Joint

Acrobot’s philosophy is to
assist the surgeon in the more technically demanding areas of joint
replacement typically hip resurfacing and unicondylar knee
replacement.Recent data from the National Joint Registry show that it
has never been more important to ensure that optimum component position
is achieved in these types of joint replacements and surgeons who
understand the benefits of these early intervention procedures are now
looking for computer assistance in surgery to ensure optimal and
reproducible results.
Orthopaedic surgeons and other healthcare professionals may be thinking what is this going to cost the hospital? The good news is that there is no capital outlay for either Acrobot Navigator or Acrobot Sculptor just the costs for disposables, as mentioned above. Acrobot are now also able to supply some of the implants in our library* directly to the hospital. That allows us to provide a service to the hospital that caters for all aspects of computer assisted orthopaedic surgery – from creation of the 3D model of the patient’s joint to providing the implants chosen in the ‘Patient Plan’ and precisely implanted with Navigator or Sculptor in surgery. *Currently the Finsbury Adept HR hip resurfacing system and the Corin Uniglide UKR system |
